Below is a little exchange for\u00a0those who think my first post\u00a0about Paul Ryan was simplistically reductive by characterizing him as a right-wing ideologue budget geek who sees humanity in terms of mathematical digits https:\/\/kevernacular.com\/?p=676<\/a><\/p>\n

Take a look at this You tube chat with Bill Clinton.\u00a0The ex-president somewhat disingenuously says he hopes\u00a0the\u00a0Democratic win in\u00a0New York won’t be\u00a0“an excuse to do nothing ” about Medicare. He’s surely well aware of the The Simpson-Bowles deficit reduction plan.<\/p>\n

Ryan paints himself as the hero rising to save America from the morass of political\u00a0paralysis, then adds: “We know the math, but we had to put ourselves out there,”\u00a0pumping Clinton’s hand. “It’s all about the math. The ex-prez may have met his match as a political\u00a0schmoozer, with this blue-eyed, iron-pumping bizarrely friendly,\u00a0Ayn Rand-reading\u00a0Catholic family man.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Simpson-Bowles\u00a0plan has as accurate and effective mathematics as anything proposed, but it doesn’t drain the blood of the\u00a0middle and lower class and the sick and disabled, so that the superrich 1% can gorge themselves into utter grotesqueness.\u00a0The Ryan Republicans have cravenly\u00a0fought the proposal into paralysis, at every turn. Even\u00a0reflexively moderate met Mitt Romney\u00a0told Sean Hannity recently “My plan is very similar to the Simpson-Bowles plan.” It won’t be when\u00a0his VP-candidate\u00a0gets his mitts on it.<\/p>\n

As Joe Klein of Time<\/em> rhetorically asks, should Pres. Obama\u00a0make a make a strong case for the Simpson-Bowles plan, perhaps in his convention speech?<\/p>\n

“Absolutely. It’s called leadership.”<\/p>\n

Otherwise we may be\u00a0doomed to the horrors of “Mittamorphosis” (see previous posting),\u00a0a president transformed into\u00a0right-wing, bloodsucking creepy crawly\u00a0that Kafka never quite dreamed of.<\/p>\n
